Help with creating, opening, and using LYHYT one-time links.

How does a one-time link work?

LYHYT stores the destination behind a short code. The first successful open consumes the link, after which the same short address cannot be used again.

Is the link consumed by a warning page?

No. Any content, domain, or TLD warning is shown before the link is consumed. The link is used only when the visitor continues to the destination.

How long does a link remain valid?

An unused link currently expires 48 hours after creation. The service administrator can change the default lifetime.

What happens after a link is used?

A used link is deactivated immediately. If the same address is opened again, LYHYT returns to the front page and shows an error saying the link has already been used.

Why do some destinations show a warning?

The administrator can configure warnings for specific domains or domain suffixes for security, content, or source-reliability reasons.
